The world's first commercial high-speed magnetically
levitated train was implemented in Shanghai China in 2004. The line
runs between Shanghai's Pudong Airport and the Longyang Lu metro station
(Metro Line #2).
This amazing train runs at a top speed of 431 km per hour (270 MPH).
The 30 km (18.75 mile) journey takes less than 8 minutes to complete.
A one-way ticket on the Maglev trains costs RMB 50 (USD $7.00), or RMB 40
($6.00) for passengers holding proof of an airline ticket purchase.
During a test run on November 12, 2003, the Maglev vehicle achieved a
Chinese record speed of 501 km/h (311 mph).
This brief video provides an overview of the train.
